Wonderful weekend!

Friday night: Made fairy wings. Dragonfly-style, with lots of glitter glue. Managed not to glue fingers to said wings, barely.

Saturday morning: To Market. Walked through morning sun to the park. Brought back cinnamon buns and blueberries and had them with lattes for breakfast!

Saturday afternoon: Wish fairy preparation. Covered all visible skin with sunscreen and glitter. Endeavoured to dye my hands purple while painting another fairy. Luckily, the endeavour failed, for the most part.

Saturday evening: Topless Wish Fairy-ing! Back to the park, and around the lake. Much fun, especially as we were accompanied by an accordion player. Granted many wishes, danced a polka, coated people in glitter and bubbles, laughed a lot. Must do this again!

Saturday night: Illuminaires! Jogged back home from the park. Arrived sweaty, still topless, and out of breath. Found shirt and food, then back to the park with Shannon, Russ, Valerie, Jamey and Shane. Met up with Elaine and Cindy there, and enjoyed watching fire-dancing, lanterns and fireworks. Back home.

(Side note: I went from my house to Trout Lake Park and back three time on Saturday, and walked around Trout Lake twice. I am very glad I am used to lots of walking from going to and from work regularly.)

Sunday morning: Slept in. Then to Jamey's with Russ for yummy pancakes and lattes. Met up with Shannon and Valerie and Shane, all also there for breakfast.

Sunday afternoon: Sarong shopping. Getting excited about the Gathering. Then mojitos and sangria at Havana's.

Sunday evening: Relaxing. Message from work: don't have to be early tomorrow. Homemade pizza for dinner (very yummy, involving asparagus, spinach, basil, cilantro pesto, feta and mozza -- Russ comes up with the best combinations). Now, catching up on LJ for the first time in days.

I love what this says about the contrast between me and this other person.

OT: Other person. Nice guy. He probably thinks he is pretty normal.
Me: Me. I think I'm pretty normal too.

Phone conversation from yesterday afternoon:

OT: I've got some great tickets for the Indy. Is Russ around so I can take him?
Me: Russ is gaming, but you could get him on his cell. But I don't think Russ is really into the Indy.

[Silence #1 - OT seems shocked by the news that a fellow man might prefer gaming to watching fast cars drive in circles.]

Me: Are you coming to Illuminaries tonight?
OT: I think I'll make it after the Indy.
Me: Cool. If you want, a bunch of people are meeting here at 7 pm to walk over to the park together. I'll be here by then; I'm going out to do the Topless Wish Fairy thing now.

[Silence #2 - OT isn't sure how to respond to my announcement of my afternoon's activites.]

OT: Well, after Illuminaries, we could all go the Brickyard together!

[Silence #3 - I'm not sure how to respond to the idea of going to a bar after the festival.]

It was just one of those moments of trying to communicate through a small cultural barrier. I found it amusing.

... on being a Topless Fairy.

When a big group of Topless Fairies stroll down the street, people feel they can look, and smile and wave and ask questions. In their minds, you are obviously a group heading to some sort of event, perhaps something involving theatre. You may be nutty, but you are "sane".

When you are alone, topless with fairy wings, sprinting by someone's car in the middle of the afternoon along a busy stretch of road, people aren't sure how to react. It's like they're not sure whether or not they should stare at the poor crazy girl... or maybe they are questioning their own sanity for seeing a topless fairy sprinting down the sidewalk.

Children think it is great though!
