I woke at about 4 AM. It's the quietest time: the bar hoppers are already home or drinking coffee in twenty-four-hour restaurants; the early-bird commuters haven't started out for their worm yet – the worms are still asleep.

Through the silence that woke me, I hear something. It's the whisper of leaves; the sound of her gown rustling as she descends upon Vancouver. Autumn glided in at 4 AM, unseen and unheard by any but me.

There was my favourite kind of wind this afternoon; a wind that blows my hair and skirt around – makes me into a wild girl – but that doesn't cut through my jean jacket.

The late afternoon sun is golden. The air is cool; not crisp yet, but it's coming. The wind smells of dry leaves, orange and brown. The maple trees seem to have dropped a million leaves over one night, though the branches are still laden.

It will soon be sweater and apple crisp weather. It will soon be knitting weather. It will soon be hot chocolate and soft blanket weather.

Welcome, fair Autumn!

YESSS. The sweetest of seasons. I'm sitting out here in a cool evening that reminds me autumn comes even to Texas.

...autumn comes even to Texas.

When the weather becomes tolerable, I assume.

I've never really loved heat and sun.

It is my favourite time of year. I was watching leaves float down today, and thinking about how this time of year makes me wistful and hopeful at the same time. It is dream time.

I love watching the leaves fall off the tree outside my living room window. Very mediatative and dreamy.

Wow. So this is what happens when you let yourself really get into the writing flow. This is gorgeous.

I like autumn too.

Thank you!

I find autumn to be a very creative time. I love curling up and knitting, or writing, or day dreaming.

I like autumn. I noticed some leaves on the turn yesterday and I thought to myself that is probably the first time I've noticed the leaves change since I was a kid. I just don't notice nature as much as an adult.

I try to notice, even though I'm an urban girl. Walking a lot helps, because I end up noticing weather and other changes from walking the same route to and from work every day.

Yeh I walk to work but there aren't many trees on my route in the centre of town. Plus a lot of trees here haven't changed yet or they might be evergreens.

Evergreens make things tricky!

'Round here, we do have to watch pretty close for signs of seasonal change. Vancouver doesn't have really distinct seasons: fall and winter and spring are all rainy.

Spring's marked by cherry blossom petals falling, and Autumn by maple leaves falling.

Our seasons are pretty distinct though Spring gets earlier every year and autumn later!

Fall hit early in my part of the world. It has been an absolutely wonderful week. *deep breath* The air is different and I love it.

It feels like it is early for us too, come to think of it. Or maybe time is just going so fast... I really hope autumn lingers for a long time.

Thank you!

I can't believe how fast the Equinox is coming. This whole year has just flown by; I just want this season to linger a little.

I can feel autumn very faintly in the air... The leaves are beginning to change, and the air is becoming cooler and crisper... I feel the energy humming around me like a cat's purr... *beams* I love it!

Good description! That's definitely it - the air feels charged with possibilities right now.

I felt autumn come at the same time as you but at the other end of sleep. Taking out the recycling at about four in the morning and the sudden realization that it was too cold to do that without my slippers on. It was wonderful. After months of feeling too hot it was so nice to have my feet feeling cold. Then I rushed back inside and curled up in my nice fuzzy blanked for some deep sleep.

I love feeling chilled and then curling up with a cozy blanket and a warm cat.
