Puck found his way home today, almost two weeks after disappearing. He is a lot thinner, but otherwise seems unharmed. We are going to try to make him into an indoor cat. Step 1: Buy new litter box.

The rest of the story later; now I'm going to cuddle the cat.

Thanks for the offer, but we purchased one last night, with a filter on it and stuff (our bathroom is right off our kitchen).

Also, thank you for the sweet comments on past Puck threads!

Awesome. I'm glad when they come home like that. Hopefully he won't make a habit of it.

This is the third time in his six years that he has disappeared. Before this, the record was a week and a half. We're going to try to keep him inside so he can't do it again.

Wow, that's amazing! Nearly two weeks? I'm really glad he's okay. Shocked, given the amount of time that had passed, but glad.

And yeah, probably a good idea to make him an indoor cat. On the bright side, the weather sucks, so he's less likely to want to go out. Maybe you can get a bird feeder and hang it some place he can watch it from a window. Cat TV, a friend of mine calls it.

"Shocked, given the amount of time that had passed..." Definitely. Russ and I had pretty much decided that the two week mark (tonight) would be when we'd give up hope and start grieving.

I love the Cat TV idea! Also, it sounds like great human entertainment, watching the cats watch the birds!

I'm so glad he came home!! One of my kitties accidentally got outside and it took a month to get him back - all of my kitties are indoor kitties too.

A month! I cannot imagine how horrible that would be. At least with Puck, he was an outdoor cat and had proven himself quite capable of taking care of himself (i.e., killing his own food, defending himself against other cats, not running into traffic). If my indoor cat got out, I don't know how she'd survive. Mind you, she is one of the dumbest cats ever (but very sweet and loving).

Well my kitties have all been strays, so they were all found outside to begin with - also we know Spark never really left the area. He was only about 1 1/2 a the time, so he was a youngster!
My neighbor spotted him and we gave her his food to put out for him everyday until we could convince him he wanted to come home - he was just so scared!

I am glad he is back. Your experience is one of the reasons I keep my two cats indoor only. Be prepared for a lot of bitching and moaning in the first month or so, though. :)

"Be prepared for a lot of bitching and moaning in the first month or so, though. :)" Ah, if only it was only bitching and moaning! It is the peeing on things that I'm dreading. (Puck really, really, really hates litter boxes.)

I think I would always choose to keep any future cats of ours indoors after this experience. Puck became an outdoor cat partially due to circumstances out of our control, and it is just too nerve-wracking sometimes

Ok. I'm so very glad to hear that Puck is back. I know you have a long hard road ahead of you if you want to make him an indoor cat, so I wish you the best of luck. I also have a sifting litter box if you need it.

*whew*

Thank you for the offer, but we bought a shiny new "space capsule" litter box with a filter on it. Hopefully he likes it.

"I know you have a long hard road ahead of you if you want to make him an indoor cat..." I'm sure there will be much treatening to turn him into a throw pillow before this is done. :)

Well, thank goodness he's back. Hopefully he can be converted to an indoor cat, but I know how stubborn cats can be (Ollie...)

The question is, who is the more stubborn cat: Puck or Russ?

Hmmm... yeah, if it was just the two of them facing off, I probably would have to bet on Puck too. But I'm sure I can out-stubborn both of them!
