It struck me today that is it sad that most posts that get tons of comments are drama-based posts. We need more happy posts! We need lots of happy comments! I need lots of happy comments - let's beat my record!* So: a game!
Here's the game: Comment on this post with something that makes you happy. Choose something that you think most people have experienced or should appreciate more. Then, comment to all the comments that are about happy things you have experienced with a story or observation about it. Be detailed! Engage the senses! Share the joy!
Even if you are seeing this post days, weeks or even months or years after it was posted, play anyway. I get comments emailed to me, so I may still get your happy notes.
*I think the most comments I've ever had on one post has been about 45, on a question and answer post. I don't have a lot of drama on my LJ.

Date: 2006-03-03 05:24 am (UTC)Last week when we had a dusting of snow, when I looked outside I could see the little red fox that came to see if there was any food(that I had put out earlier) left to eat, I could see the deer huddled in a group keeping watch while they ate the corn I had put out!
Snow makes the world a more beautiful place! :-)

Date: 2006-03-03 05:33 am (UTC)I grew up in Ontario, and we used to have these gorgeous mornings with a sky completely blue and clear, and the sun reflecting off the snow would be almost painful to the eyes. Everything would sparkle.
I love spotting wildlife! At Salt Spring Island, we got to almost feed wild deer out of hand. They are so beautiful.

Date: 2006-03-03 05:41 am (UTC)I love fresh sheets. One of my favourite things is to crawl into a freshly changed bed, especially if it has been made with soft, cozy sheets and it is a cold night. Then I like to pile pillows around me and pull lots of blankets and the quilt my Mom made me over me, and cuddle down into the warmth.
Bonus points if I can listen to the rain or wind outside while in my nest.

I have to admit, my mom was a freak about not using the clothes dryer.

"What's out there in Nebraska?"
"Corn. And lesbians."
"As long as my future career doesn't entail poking dead babies with a stick..."
"Better than poking live ones, isn't it?"

Date: 2006-03-03 05:55 am (UTC)when i was little i would always run outside after it rained to try and find one. i havn't looked for one in years. today as i was leaving work i just looked up and there was a huge rainbow arching across the sky. it was completly unexpected, and reminded me that i need to look up more;)

Date: 2006-03-03 06:02 am (UTC)There was one day, when I was having a rough day at school, where I saw four rainbows in the sky at once! Three of them were one above the other, each one thicker but less distinct then the one below. The fourth one was opposite the others. It lifted my spirits so much to be surrounded by their fragile beauty.

Date: 2006-03-03 05:17 pm (UTC)- Purple clouds against the Orange sky at night from the street outside my house.
- White clouds against the yellow sky as I cross the Lions Gate in the morning. Have to arrive at _just_ the right moment to catch this.
- A good idea for a meal.
- Knowing that I'm loved.
- Loving in return.
- As Shannon says, that awesome sex that steals your ability to talk.
- Lego. Mostly Star Wars Lego.
- My ponies. My newest one is done :D
- My book collection.
- A job well done. In particular, I told my boss that I could have this project done by Wednesday. I finished it on Tuesday. I started Friday. Readers can take my word for it that this is impressive.
- Inline skating in the summer.
I'll see if I can't come back later and add more. Times like these it's best to remind yourself of your happy things. Thanks Melissa :).

Ponies make me smile. When i'm feeling shitty I go and play with them or rearrange them or whatnot. :) They have so many happy memories associated with them

Date: 2006-03-03 06:25 pm (UTC)- Snowboarding with Jake
- The feeling after you think you're going to die and dash your brains out on a rock that you can't quite see, but then don't and live instead.
- Thinking about the things that you have been working on for years that you didn't notice you were better at because it's been a slow progression. But then thinking back and realizing that you are better at them than you ever thought you could be.

I understand your other ones, but I must admit that I don't "get" the appeal of danger. But, hey, whatever does it for you!

Date: 2006-03-03 06:54 pm (UTC)I was driving into Vancouver around sundown last night and was treated to a lovely sunset. It was mostly overcast, but with enough gaps to create beautiful abstract patterns in the clouds. The sun was a gleaming orange lump - not round, but distorted and oddly shaped by the clouds around it. The sky looked clean - that post rain washed freshness of Spring. Everything was dark pastel - blues, purples, pinks, oranges, and soft washed out greys around the edges. It was like a Hallmark Easter card in the middle of a graveyard - a spot of soft calm color surrounded by the grim bleakness of a wet grey world.
Hmm... other stuff that makes me happy... People. When I stop and think about things that please me, most of them are my people. My partner in her infinite patiences, love, support, joi de vive, and quirkiness. My mates who fill my life with strength, silliness, fun, and uncommon friendship. My family which I am so unbelievably lucky and blessed to have been born into. I have somehow managed to surround myself with truly exceptional people. Yay for my people!
Mmm... so much talk of snow. I love snow.
Geekdom. The joy of a shared game with my friends. Telling a really good story. Managing to get a paint job just the way I want it.
Helping someone.
Success. The feeling of accomplishing something, especially something new or challenging. Learning something new.
Hugs.
Really good sex of either kind mentioned above.
Beauty in all its forms.

[Beautiful description!]
You are that spot of beautiful colour in a hard world for someone. Hopefully some of the wonderful people in your life can be the colour in your black moods.

Date: 2006-03-04 05:46 am (UTC)Poetry.
Date: 2006-03-04 02:54 am (UTC)When writing - one that you can't seem to write fast enough because its just pouring out of you. One where it seems effortless. Yet when your done....you can't believe you just wrote something so great!
When reading - when you finish reading a poem...and you actually have to put the book down and think about what you just read, or you can't wait to re-read it. A poem when you just have to say....wow. That was a fantasic poem.
The world is better because poetry is in it.
Beauty in the Moment -being in awe.
Date: 2006-03-04 02:57 am (UTC)A second or two when I get to just look around me and say...wow. Be it because I'm building a house on a hill and the view is so amazing. Or when I look at my boyfriend and thing...holy cow. He is amazing. Or when its snowing such big heavy flakes out, and you just take the moment to be in awe.
I love moments of awe.
Re: Beauty in the Moment -being in awe.
Date: 2006-03-04 03:44 am (UTC)I also get it sometimes when I look at my partner. I also get it when I see waterfalls or the ocean, or the mountains on a clear day.
